The main differences between diamond shaping materials and diamond micropowders are as follows

Morphological characteristics

Diamond shaping material: it is usually obtained by crushing and shaping large artificial diamond single crystals, the particles are relatively large, and the shape is generally close to the iso-accumulative polygonal shape.

Diamond micropowder: refers to diamond particles with particle size finer than 36/54 microns, including monocrystalline diamond micropowder, polycrystalline diamond micropowder and nano-diamond micropowder, etc., with even finer particle sizes at the micron or even nano level.

Production process

Diamond shaping material: mainly through the large particles of diamond single crystal for mechanical crushing and shaping, commonly used in air flow mill crushing and shaping or ball mill crushing and shaping and other ways.

Diamond micropowder: the production process is more complicated, take monocrystalline diamond micropowder as an example, it is formed by man-made diamond single crystal grains after crushing, shaping, purifying, grading and other processes; polycrystalline diamond micropowder is made from graphite by using the directional blasting method; nano diamond micropowder is synthesised by high explosives under the condition of negative oxygen bombardment.

Performance characteristics

Diamond shaping material: with regular polygonal crystal shape, it can provide better cutting force and holding force in the process of grinding and so on, with high strength, and can withstand certain pressure and impact.

Diamond micropowder: high hardness, good wear resistance, monocrystalline diamond micropowder retains the characteristics of monocrystal, good strength, toughness and thermal stability; polycrystalline diamond micropowder has good toughness and self-sharpening; nano-diamond micropowder, in addition to the excellent attributes of diamond, also has the small-size effect, the surface effect, the quantum effect and so on.

Application fields

Diamond shaping material: it can be used directly or made into abrasive paste for free grinding or polishing, and is used for processing precision parts or shaped workpieces made of cemented carbide, glass, ceramics, gemstones, and diamond and other materials such as cutting edge tools, gauges, optical instruments, electronic devices and so on.

Diamond micropowder: more widely used, can be used to manufacture electroplating products, grinding wheels, grinding wheels, for chips, optical crystals, large silicon wafers, ultra-fine polishing and precision parts of the grinding and polishing, but also in the field of medicine as a bio-carrier and so on.

Market price

Diamond shaping material: the price is usually cheaper compared with diamond micropowder, because its production process is relatively simple, and the requirements for the purity of raw materials and so on are not as high as those for diamond micropowder.

Diamond micropowder: especially high quality nano-diamond micropowder or monocrystalline and polycrystalline diamond micropowder used in high-end precision processing, the price is higher because of its production difficulty, strict requirements on raw materials and process, and high application value in high-end fields.
