Key Features
High drilling efficiency
PDC core bits use polycrystalline diamond compacts (PDC) as cutting elements. Thanks to the large diamond exposure, the bit maintains high sharpness throughout the entire drilling process, providing a significantly higher rate of penetration compared to conventional bits. The hardness of diamond is approximately 10 times that of steel, which greatly improves rock fragmentation efficiency.
Ability to drill under low loads and low speeds
The bit breaks rock by a shearing and scraping action, so the required weight‑on‑bit is only about 1/3 of that needed for impregnated diamond bits of the same diameter. Lower load and speed values contribute to preserving the drilling tools and extending their service life.
Excellent gauge‑keeping ability
Polycrystalline diamond (PCD) gauge protectors can be installed on the outer and inner surfaces of the bit, providing high wear resistance and allowing precise control of outer and inner diameter tolerances, ensuring efficient use of the cutting elements.
Long service life
During operation, the polycrystalline diamond compacts exhibit a self‑sharpening property, the cross‑sectional wear rate is slowed down, and the material has good load‑bearing capacity and chip resistance. Combined with an optimised cutting structure design, the service life of the bit is significantly increased.
Optimised hydraulic design
The bit features an optimised hydraulic system that ensures adequate bit cooling, efficient cuttings removal, and smooth core transportation, preventing clogging and further improving core recovery efficiency.
Applications
PDC core bits are widely used for core sampling in various industries:
Geological exploration: mineral prospecting, regional geological surveys, etc.
Oil and gas drilling
Coal mining: geological exploration of coal deposits, underground core sampling, etc.
Hydraulic and energy construction: engineering investigations for dams, tunnel construction, etc.
Highway, railway and bridge construction: foundation investigations, pile quality control, etc.
Building and structure construction: engineering‑geological investigations of foundations, concrete core sampling for testing, etc.
PDC core bits are suitable for drilling in various soft to medium‑hard formations (limestone, sandstone, argillite, shale, chalk, etc.) with a drillability of up to and including Category 9. They are particularly effective when drilling in formations of Categories 6–9.
